The Vietnamese dong (ISO 4217 code: VND, symbol ₫) is the official currency of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, issued by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV, Ngân hàng Nhà nước Việt Nam). The SBV manages the exchange rate through a managed float system against a basket of currencies, setting an official daily central rate within which the dong can move in a narrow band. This mechanism aims to preserve the competitiveness of Vietnamese exports while containing inflation. The EUR/VND rate depends both on SBV policy and fluctuations of the US dollar, which is the reference currency in Asian trade.

Vietnam is one of the most popular destinations for French travellers in South-East Asia. Hanoi and its old town (36 guild streets), Ha Long Bay (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Hoi An and its lanterns, the temples of Hue, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and its historical museums, the Central Highlands (Dalat) and the Mekong Delta make for a rich itinerary. Street food is central to the travel experience: pho, bún bò Huế, bánh mì, bánh xèo, cà phê trứng — all dishes enjoyed at neighbourhood eateries where only local currency is accepted.
